our #blacklivesmatter

Trayvon Martin was a 17 year old African American student The story of Trayvon Martin. He was fatally shot by George Zimmerman (28 years old) a mixed race Hispanic man after an argument that took place between the two. Zimmerman was not found guilty due to not enough evidence relating to hate crime prosecution zimmerman found not guilty . That was the origin of #blacklivesmatter, the cry against racist police violence.

#blacklivesmatter became a viral and moving topic on social media #blacklivesmatter on social media . This topic has a positive angle because it became an eye and voice opener to a whole lot of people especially to black people worldly. Black people that were under looked on, not given the same opportunities as other races and other racial acts that take place on black people on a daily basis. The other positive angle from this emotional, personal topic is that the students of the University of Pretoria came out of their racial shell. The students voiced out their crying voices of raising the issue of the university having Afrikaans and English as their medium of teaching languages students arrested for voicing out their opinion . This is painful on the black students because they are taught in a language that is not of their mother tongue while the white students are being taught in Afrikaans their mother tongue. Teaching the white students in Afrikaans puts them at a better advantage academically because they understand the course at first hand and that results
in them performing excellently in their studies. The black students raised this issue so that they too can matter! They too can be considered and have equal rights to the white students.

The #blacklivesmatter also created a negative connotation to it. The nation has become angry. Individuals are at war amongst each other. White people are also fighting against black people that they deserve and worked hard for all they have. This topic has been misunderstood to some people. The Black communities fight is not to white individuals but rather to the different race privileges that the white race have over the black race.

I as a black person #blacklivesmatter hits home because it was painful enough that our forefathers had to go apartheid and after their fights and deaths we as their children are still living under the shadow of the white race, even when South Africa was declared a free country for all who live in it, in 1994 south africa overcoming apartheid . The expectations of South Africa being a free country was that everyone will have equal rights regardless of race, gender or status. Unfortunately our country has not lived up to those expectations or goals.

  3. I agrees with you with regards to the violence against black people as the color of our skin should determine the manner in which people should treat black people.

  4. Breaks my heart to see other humans being treated like animals. We are all human and have equal rights. and we all have a right to live, not being killed because of my skin colour.

  7. Well written. I am a firm believer that we were all created by one God, with the same image. I believe that God has no color, and that it is human nature to deem one's own race as more superior than others hence there is a thing that's called patriotism which is simply being proud of one's own race. Even if a person is proud of his own race and feels that it is more superior he/she should rather keep his/her opinion to him/herself and not make people from different races feel less human
